WeConfig 1.12 adds support for more devices and improves on interoperability with WeOS

WeConfig makes network configuration and maintenance more efficient, simple and reliable. Many hours of work can be saved in the initial installation, as well as in ongoing maintenance throughout the lifetime of the network. Time-consuming tasks can be automated, and configuration updates can be deployed in bulk. WeConfig minimizes the risk of configuration errors and makes it simple to optimize network security. A properly configured and monitored network with simple and robust maintenance processes will minimize any risk of network downtime.

Data communication networks critical to manufacturing, utilities and transport infrastructure are becoming increasingly complex and must meet greater security and reliability requirements. To support this, Westermo has enhanced its WeConfig network configuration tool, helping to further simplify the configuration and management of secure and resilient networks. With the release of WeConfig 1.12, three new features have been added. As a next step in adding support for all Westermo devices in WeConfig, 1.12 adds support for our Powerline unit DDW-002-B1. This is the first ever powerline unit to be supported by WeConfig. The DDW-002-B1 acts as a bridge between two switches where there is a need to change the medium from etc. Ethernet to Powerline and then back to Ethernet. In earlier versions of WeConfig the DDW-002-B1 would be invisible, but from 1.12 and forward the device will appear.

“The more devices that WeConfig supports, the better overview users will have of their network. Now that WeConfig is adding support for more non-WeOS devices, the seamless user experience grows, since configuration of devices with different operating systems can be done through one tool.” says Niklas Mörth, Product Manager for Westermo Operating System (WeOS) and software tools.

With the new release WeConfig also offer the possibility to turn on/off MDNS and Arping of link local addresses and also supports the new Syslog configuration capabilities in WeOS. Both features were previously added to WeOS and are now possible to configure through WeConfig as well.  The benefits of configurating through WeConfig rather than WeOS becomes clear as soon as there are more than one device needing to be configured, since with WeConfig it can be done on many devices simultaneously, saving a lot of time. Product Manager Niklas Mörth explains the reasoning behind this feature: “This update is in line with our belief that anything you are able to do in WeOS, should also be possible through WeConfig.”
