Westermo to demonstrate Ethernet and WLAN technology that enhances network security and connectivity

Westermo is to exhibit its range of industrial networking solutions at SMART Automation Austria 2018, demonstrating how itprovidescritical data communications, enhancedsecurity and resilient wireless connectivity. Westermo will present its technology within the new `C4I Connectivity for Industry’ area of the exhibition, which focuses on digitisation, networking and information technology innovations.

On Stand C56, Hall A, Westermo will demonstrate how its Lynx, Redfox and Wolverine industrial Ethernet switches can be applied to mission-critical data network infrastructure applications. Westermo will also show how its Lynx switches can be applied within manufacturing applications to protect the production network from cyber security threats from the office LAN.

"The C4I Connectivity for Industry section of SMART Automation provides Westermo with ideal the opportunity to demonstrate its solutions to visitors responsible for both IT and operational networks," says Andreas Hinterschweiger, Westermo Austria. “IT/OT convergence requires appropriate networking technology to managethe flow of data and provide the necessary security between the two zones. Westermo solutions, designed for industrial applications, offer this.”

On stand C73, Westermo will showcase its wireless communication solutions for on-board and mobile installations in harsh environments. Two robots, developed by the University of Applied Sciences Wels to aid rescue efforts within disaster areas, operate using Westermo RT-320 WLAN devices. Using the IEEE 802.11 standard the Westermo RT-320 ensures high data rates and reliable communications required to operate the robots and applicable withinpublic transportation and industrial data/video communicationinstallations.

“The rescue robots can examine a collapse-prone building, search for injured persons by means of thermal imaging cameras, or even take samples after a reactor catastrophe,” explained Hinterschweiger. “They operate in the harshest environments and therefore provide the perfect `vehicle’ to convey the robustness of the Westermo WLAN technology.”
SMART Automation Austria takes place at the Messe Wien, Vienna on 15-17th May 2018.
